Evart baseball team sweeps Charlevoix

EVART – Evart swept a doubleheader with Charlevoix Saturday 9-1 and 10-0. Danny Witbeck got the pitching win in both games.

In game one, he fanned four batters in two innings.

Michael Lodholtz pitched in relief and struck out four.

Pierce Johnson had two singles and one RBI, Mac Sims had a double and two RBIs, and Nate Sochocki had two singles.

"We scored eight runs in the first inning, so we got Danny out of the game after only throwing 20 pitches," Evart coach Josh Johnson said.

Witbeck got the win in the second game, going four innings and striking out five.

Johnson had two singles and an RBI. Lodholtz had two singles and four RBIs. Haidyn Sochocki had three singles, and Simmer had three singles and two RBIs.

"Our bottom four hitters scored eight of our runs and accounted for seven base hits," Johnson said. "Since the Big Rapids doubleheader, we’ve worked real hard on getting production throughout our lineup and that showed today. I was real happy with our kids. Sochocki and Simmer especially made our offense go."

Evart is 6-2 and hosts Clare on Tuesday.

Thursday game

Evart posted a 19-3 baseball nonleague win on Thursday over Vestaburg.

Johnson had a single and RBI, Witbeck had four hits with three doubles and a triple; Reese Ransom had a single and two RBIs; Sims had a triple and double and two RBIs; Darrion Reagan had three singles and two RBIs; Nate Sochocki had two singles and two RBIs; Haidyn Simmer a single and two RBIs and Brayden Cass a double and two RBIs.

Johnson was the winning pitcher. He went three innings and struck out four and allowed one hit. Witbeck went two innings and struck out six. Simmer pitched an inning, struck out one and walked three.

The second game only went three innings and Evart was ahead when it was called because of darkness. Witbeck had a double and two RBIs, Sims a single and RBI and Sochocki a single.

Michael Lodholtz was the pitcher and had three strikeouts while allowing a walk and two hits.

Evart is 4-2.

“I’m happy the bats came to life,” Evart coach Josh Johnson said.

Evart softball

VESTABURG – Evart started out the twinbill with a 12-2 win on Thursday at Vestaburg.

Evart had eight runs in the first inning.

Addy Gray, Veronica Lofquist and Ryenn and Skylar Baumgardner all drove in runs for Evart.

Gray was the starting pitcher and fanned all three batters she faced. Skylar Baumgardner had an inside the park home run the first inning. Evart had 12 hits.

Ally Theunick, Kayanne Tiedt, Gray and Baumgardner all had multiple hits. Theunick had three hits.

Evart won the second game 23-0. Theunick had four RBI and had two hits. Evart had 12 runs in the second. Kate Gostlin was the winning pitcher. She struck out four batters.

Liz Vanassche also contributed to the win for Evart.
