Evart baseball team goes 1-1 in districts

LAKEVIEW  — The Division 3 baseball districts at Lakeview on Saturday had a sweet start but a sour ending for the Evart Wildcats.

The Wildcats blanked Central Montcalm 4-0 in the semifinals but then lost to Morley Stanwood 11-1 in the championship game.

Andrew Race got the job done on the mound for Evart as the winning pitcher in the first game.

“He had an outstanding night,” said Evart coach Josh Johnson. “He struck out 18 of the 21 outs (against Central Montcalm).”

Race also helped himself at the plate with a single and two RBIs. Imhoff had two singles while Nolan Vanorder had a single and two stolen bases. Thomas Hyde and Jared Pattee both had singles.

“I was really happy with that first game and getting into the championship game,” said Evart coach Josh Johnston. “Andrew has pitched awesome for us all year. He was rock solid that first game.”

Pattee was the losing pitcher in the second game. Imhoff, Race, Andrew Bengry and Adam Zinger had singles. Zinger had an RBI.

“Getting a chance to win the district would have been pretty cool,” Johnston said. “Morley was just a lot better hitting team than we were. They hit the heck out of the ball.”

Evart's final record was 9-19.
