Evart baseball team falls in district finals

EVART — Evart's baseball team was 10-6 in the Division 4 district semifinals over Marion at home on Saturday, but lost 15-0 to Beal City in the title game.

In the win over Marion, Josh Dorn had a single and two RBIs, Garrett Johnson and Karsten Allen had singles, Layne Nadig had one RBI, Trevin Ladd had a double and Carter Pritchard added two singles and two RBIs.

Nadig was the winning pitcher. He went six innings, had seven strikeouts and allowed one walk and seven hits.

"I was a pretty good game," Evart coach Josh Johnson said. "Their pitcher did very well. It took us awhile to get to him."

Evart was 3-0 against Marion during the season.

Against Beal City, Evart got two outs, but the the Aggies exploded for six runs. The next Beal City at-bat went one-two-three. But the Aggies exploded after that.

The Wildcats ended at 13-20.

"We just never really hit our stride," Johnson said. "We had moments when I thought we were about do, but then sit back again. I said at the beginning of the year we knew Layne Nadig would pitch well. We needed to have other guys step up. We have some young guys coming back next year. They got valuable experience. I'm excited for those kids coming back."
