Evart baseball team enjoys busy week

EVART - Evart swept Manton in a pair of Highland Conference baseball games on Thursday.

It was a 15-0 in the first game which ended on the mercy rule.

Pierce Johnson was the winning pitcher, going four innings striking out seven and walking one. He allowed two hits.

Danny Witbeck had three hits and two RBIs. Haidyn Simmer had three hits with a double, triple and single and four RBIs. Pierce Johnson had three hits with two singles and a two-run homer. Michael Lodholtz and Mac Sims both added a single and RBI. Reese Ransom had an RBI. Brayden Cass added two singles and an RBI.

Evart won the second game 10-0 which ended on the mercy rule. Brayden Cass went four innings, striking out four and scattered four hits. Sims pitched the last inning.

Witbeck had a double, Simmer added three hits with a double and triple and one RBI, Johnson had a single and RBI, Nolan Theunick and Sims both had an RBI, Ransom had two singles an double and two RBIs, Lodholtz had a single, double and RBI. Nate Sochocki is 12-6 overall and 11-1 in the Highland Conference and will be at Beal City on Tuesday in Highland Conference play.

On Tuesday, Evart swept Roscommon. It was 12-0 in the first game. Witbeck threw a perfect game in five innings. He fanned seven batters.

Witbeck had two singles and two RBIs. Simmer had two singles. Johnson had three singles and two RBIs. Sims and Reese Ransom also had RBIs. Theunick and Cass both had a single and two RBIs, Lodholtz had a single and RBI. Nate Sochocki added a single.

The second game was 13-6. Witbeck took the win. He only had 40 pitches for the first game and was able to go two innings in the second game, striking out five and walking one. Simmer, Lodholtz and Johnson. pitched in relief.

Witbeck had two singles and an RBI. Simmer had two singles. Sims had two RBIs. Ransom and two singles, a double and two RBI, Cass and Sochocki both had a single, double and two RBIs.

"We hit the ball really well," Evart coach Josh Johnson said. "That was a long time coming."

Evart was scheduled to play at Beal City on Tuesday for the league title.


Evart Wildcats

Evart lost to McBain 114-45 and beat McBain Northern Michigan Christian 77-31 in boys track and field action on Tuesday. In the girls meet, McBain had 107 points followed by Evart with 43 and McBain NMC with 11.

For the Evart boys, Dakobe White was first in the 100 meters (12.24). Also taking firsts were Marcel White in the 200-meters (25.18). The 4x100 relay of White, White, Kamden Darling and Bryan Calderon (46.82), Calderon, White, White and Camden Darling in the 4x200 relay (1:41.59), and Calderon in the long jump (19-3 1/2).

First places for the girls were Mackenzi VanBuren in the 100 meters (14.16) and long jump (15-10), Kara Henry in the 200 meters (28.67) and high jump (4-11) , Mckenzy McKay in the discus (80-1).
