BLANCHARD — Justin O’Dell and Carter McLachlan combined for a five-inning no-hitter in Evart’s first game of the season on Thursday. The Wildcats prevailed 10-0.

O’Dell went the first four innings and McLachlan went the final inning. Hitters for the Wildcats were Jericho VanScoyoc, Tyler Sochocki, Billy Conklin, Josh Dorn, Garrett Johnson and Donavin Reagan.

The second game ended in a 5-5 tie after six innings. Will Weinberg went four innings and allowed one run and three walks and had five strikeouts. VanScoyoc had two singles and an RBI. Sochocki had a single. Reagan and Johnson also had key hits.

“That was our first time on a field,’’ Evart coach Josh Johnson said. “We’ve been outside but not on a baseball field yet. I was mostly pleased with our guys. We pitched pretty well. We gave up too many walks in that second game. That was a total of 10 walks. That’s way too many walks. We bunted the ball well. For the most part, we put it in play and didn’t strike out much. I’m happy with that.

“Obviously no one wants to get a tie. I know the guys were disappointed in that tie. Will Weinberg, with it being early in the year and cold, I limited his pitch count and got him out of their and it was 5-1 He reached the pitch count I set for him. Unfortunately, the other guys couldn’t get the job done.”

Evart is scheduled to play at home Wednesday against Big Rapids. Crossroads, weather permitting.
