EVART — Josh Dorn put in a solid season of baseball during the spring for Evart.
He showed during summer baseball he’s ready to up his game a few notches for 2017.
Dorn will be a junior next season. He’s been happy with the way his summer team has been performing against opponents like Pine River and Reed City. He’s seen action in various summer games, most recently last week against Pine River.
Dorn said he isn’t necessarily focusing on any particular aspect of his baseball game.
“I just want to stay in rhythm for next year,” he said.
Dorn played for an Evart team that tied for second place in the Highland Conference and handed Beal City a rare loss. The previous season, the Wildcats won seven games.
“It was a solid season, something to build on,” Dorn said, adding the key to the 2016 successes, “was our mentality.”
Dorn played first base for the Wildcats.
“I just felt the rhythm,” he said, adding the key to being a good hitter as a sophomore was “ability and keeping my eye on the ball.”
Dorn has other sports to focus on before baseball next spring, including football.
But Evart baseball for 2017, “is looking very positive,” he said.
Summer baseball “is really important to build your skills,” Dorn said.
Football activities have included 7-on-7s so far for Dorn and his teammates.
