EVART - If fishing is going good then it's likely a seasoned angler like Mark Sochocki of Evart is taking advantage of it.

Sochocki is executive director of the Big Rapids Housing Commission and is very active in other areas.

As a sports dad, he's been following his sons Ty and Nate around extensively. Hunting has also been a favorite past time for Sochocki.

Then there's fishing.

"The fishing has been really good for walleye on Saginaw Bay," he said. "I took my dad and a friend out on Father's Day weekend and we had our limit of 24 fish in just a few hours. The Lake Michigan fishing has been very good for lake trout and very sporadic for salmon.

"The Grey Ghost team fished in the Manistee Bud tournament a few weekends ago with some success. We caught the biggest steelhead, 15.75 pounds, in the two-day tournament which netted some prize money and trophy. That same fish also won the Manistee County Sportfishing Association's largest steelhead division for June in the summer fishing derby."
