Competition was hot and heavy on Opening Day 2012, as hunters from around the area brought their big bucks in to the Evart Masonic Lodge to be measured and evaluated for the annual Evart Chamber of Commerce Big Buck Contest.
Members of the Lodge were on hand early to greet hearty hunters who headed for the woods at dawns earliest light in hope of getting a prize buck this year.
There was a lot of shooting, some impressive tales, and a goodly number of well turned out whitetails as well.
The Evart Big Buck Contest is a staple of the Opening Day ‘celebration’ in Evart and has been taken place for well over a quarter-century.
Every participant walks away with a generous prize, and leaderboard winners not only shoot big bucks but also earn some big bucks thanks to the Evart Chamber.
