Ethan Crisp key lineman for Pine River
LEROY — Pine River is off to a 2-0 start in what the Bucks hope, will be a winning season.
The Bucks are coming off a 1-8 campaign, but players like senior Ethan Crisp are confident this can be a whole new season.
It’s Crisp’s second year on varsity.
“Coming in, we thought we were going to be a lot better than we ended up,” Crisp said. “I didn’t play what I could. JVs isn’t anything compare to varsity. Varsity has better athletes and you have to work your way up here. I think I’ve improved.”
Crisp plays offensive and defensive tackle.
On defense, “I’m strong and look to get off the ball real quick and hit people,” Crisp said. “I’m going to be a run stopper this year.”
Pine River has defeated Kalkaska (22-0) and Hesperia (42-14) in getting off to a 2-0 start.
“You have to go out there with the mentality you’re going to win whether it’s hot or cold,” Crisp said. “You play your position as hard as you can until the last play.”
Crisp went to Ferris State and other camps during the summer to get better.
“This team this year, I think we could 9-0 and win a championship” he said. “We all push each other to be better. We’re a team now.”
