Elliott playing strong defensively for Coyotes

REED CITY —  Charles Elliott continues to come up big as a junior for Reed City’s football team.

Elliott had 12 tackles on Friday in a 53-8 victory over Central Montcalm that clinched outright the Coyotes’ sixth straight Central State Activities Association title.

It’s his first year on varsity and during the season he earned a spot at middle linebacker.

The transition “has been going pretty good,” he said. “It’s a lot different playing at a new level. But we’re still putting in the work.”

During week four against Grant, Elliott started coming up consistently with a lot of tackles.

“I do my job,” he said. “We go over plays all week and I just fill the hole.”

Elliott said he’s been working on his speed and strength, plus a little bit of everything.

He’s also listed on the Reed City roster as a running back.

“I like to focus on defense,” he said. “I run as fast as I can and try and score.”

The Coyotes are 8-0 and will go for their fifth 9-0 season in the last six years.

“We work together as a team,” he said. “We’re a family. We need to focus and make sure we don’t get our heads too high.”
