EVART - Senior Kelci Elder is expected to have a banner season for Evart's girls basketball team this winter.

She served notice on Tuesday (Dec. 3) this could definitely be the case.

Elder had 18 points and 15 rebounds to lead Evart to a 44-39 non-league win over Harrison in the season opener for both teams.

Kara Henry added nine points and Kaylee Ladd and Kyleigh Burhan had eight points apiece for Evart.

Evart led 17-15 after the first quarter, 19-13 at halftime and 34-22 after the third quarter.

"I was happy to get a win," Evart coach Matt Tiedt said. "Harrison beat us by 21 points last year."

Elder obviously played a key role in this turnaround.

Elder was in Evart, but then was at Chippewa Hills through her freshman season prior to coming back to Evart as a sophomore.

"The first two years have gone pretty well," Elder said. "This is definitely the hardest year with (harder) workouts."

Elder looks to maintain her same role from previous years, which includes being a prolific scorer.

She's looking to feast more on putbacks this season.

Elder put in a lot of work during the offseason.

This year's team enjoys experience. Elder said defense will be a strength. She's looking for Lake City and Manton to be strong teams in the Highland.
