Dyer bids for winning season with Evart baseball

EVART — Evart’s baseball team returned to action this week with seniors like Tre Dyer looking to make a big impact on the Wildcats this season.

The Wildcats were on break last week following four weeks of preseason practice, mostly indoors, because of the weather. They return this week and have a twinbill scheduled for Wednesday at Glen Lake.

Dyer has been in baseball four seasons at Evart, all at first base.

“We’re trying to get down situations for defense and work on our hitting,” Dyer said.

On hitting in the past, Dyer said he’s been “not as good as I want to, but decent.”

He’s looking at .200 or better this season.

“I have to be focused when I’m at bat, keep focused all the time,” Dyer said.

Dyer has usually had a strong fielding percentage at first base.

“The team is looking good,” Dyer said. “We have some ups and downs.”

Many players continue to work hard with the sport and have been sticking with it, he pointed out.

Hitting and defense should be a strength for the Wildcats, he indicated. Hitting will be critical.

“We have some key pitchers coming back,” Dyer said.

Dyer indicated Pine River and Beal City should be among the top teams in the Highland Conference.

“I feel like we can make some noise,” Dyer said.
