REED CITY — Ricky Droke has his fourth and final season coming up with Reed City varsity soccer.

The Coyote senior wouldn’t mind making it a memorable one.

Droke has been striker. He’s been at that position most of his varsity career along with some action at outside mid.

“Last year, we all did really good,” Droke said. “We played as a team very well. We lost about half of our starters.”

Reed City won the districts last season and lost in the regionals to Hudsonville Unity Christian, which went on to be Division 3 state runners-up.

It’s been a busy summer for Droke, who also plays baseball and basketball at Reed City.

“Staying in shape is the big thing,” he said, “and not getting hurt.”

When it comes to soccer technique, Droke has been focusing on finishing.

“I think we’ll be ready to go,” said Droke, noting that 10 days after practices officially start on Aug. 8, the Coyotes will be playing Leelanau. “We’ll be running a lot to get in shape.”

Droke is focusing on being more of a leader for the team this season

“We have a lot of seniors but they’ve only played two or three years,” Droke said. “In my eyes, we have a young team.”
