Doubleheader sweep gives Evart baseball team bright outlook

EVART — Coach Josh Johnson would like to think his Evart baseball team is playing at its best right now.

The Wildcats (3-0, 8-6) are home Thursday with Marion and at the home Cat Classic on Saturday.

Evart took a pair over Lake City 11-4 and 13-4 in Highland Conference action on May 3.

”I’m really happy the way we’re hitting the ball,” Evart coach Josh Johnson said. “The guys are really locked in. They’re seeing the ball really well. Even in our last couple of games, we’re hitting the ball well.”

Layne Nadig was the winning pitcher in relief in the first game. Robbie Tapling had three hits while Chris Imhoff had two doubles and three RBI. Josh Dorn had two singles and four RBI, Andrew Bengry had a double and two RBI and Layne Nadig added two singles and two RBI. Jericho VanScoyoc and Billy Conklin both had one hit.

Bengry was the winning pitcher in the second game.

Bengry had three singles and two RBI, Imhoff had two singles, a double and RBI, Dorn, Trevin Ladd and Nadig had singles while Karsten Allen and VanScoyoc both had a single and RBI.

Evart was scheduled to be at Beal City this Tuesday.
