REED CITY  —  It’s the second half of the boys basketball campaign and junior Mykel Dillard is confident his Reed City team can play on a high note for the rest of the season.

Dillard, a junior, has had two of his better games against Tri County, including in a recent win at the Vikings’ gym.

“We’ve been playing really good,” Dillard said. “We’ve had some close losses.”

A key in the win over Tri County, in which Andre Jones was leading scorer, was hitting the 3-pointers early in the game.

“They were really critical because (Tri County) was playing a 2-3 zone and not letting you get in the paint,” Dillard said. “It’s a conference game, we have to win it. We have to win every conference game.”

The Coyotes have had various games where a high number of fouls have gone against them.

“We’re trying to be aggressive, but are getting fouls,” Dillard said. “We have to move our feet more.”

This is Dillard’s first varsity season.

“It’s going good,” he said. “I just have to attack more. I want to be a scorer, but I want to play defense, too.”

The Coyotes are at home Friday against Big Rapids. The goal is to be playing excellent basketball by the end of the season and at district time.

“We just want to take one game at a time and (do well in the) conference,” Dillard said, referring to the Central State Activities Association’s Gold Division.
