Dew remains active with shooting sports

MARION — Todd Dew, of Reed City, was among the sportsmen participating in the Marion Rod & Gun Club Side by Side sporting clays shoot recently.

At this shoot, sportsman were taking aim at 50 targets.

“I don’t get out here very often,” he said. “We usually shoot at Reed City’s club (along US. 10).”

The event on Saturday at Marion occurs at that club only once a year, Dew said.

“We’re shooting grandpa’s old side by side,” he said.

Dew, a former coach at Reed City, is an avid waterfowl hunter but also enjoys particpating in various shoots. So does Marshall Wickens of Tustin, who was the coordinator at the Marion event of what he called a Side by Side Fun Shoot.

“It is a more antique style,” he said. “This is a group of old men getting together to shoot old guns for fun and fellowship. We did it at Reed City the first four or five years. Then we outgrew the Reed City Sportsman Club. This is our second time at Marion. It’s always the last Saturday in July.”

Wickens’ home club is the Reed City Sportsman Club.
