LEROY — Brittany Davis is set for a big season as a senior for the Pine River Bucks.

It’s her second varsity volleyball season.

“I felt our team last year wasn’t that awesome because we had a lot of miscommunication,” she said. “We’re really focused this year.”

Davis played middle front last season. She adjusted to the speed factor going from JV to varsity. She’s more comfortable on the court this season.

Her position remains the same.

“I’m more of a leader this year,” Davis said. “I’m hitting the ball harder this year.”

Davis had 10 kills, four digs and six aces during a recent home quad. At the Traverse City Central Invitational, she had 12 kills and 12 digs. Hitting is among the aspects of her game she’s working on this season. She also wants to work on her timing and blocking.

“We’re doing really good this year so far,” Davis said. “We have to regroup and not allow other teams to get to us.”

Pine River is at McBain this Saturday.

The Bucks also hope to be a factor in the Highland Conference. McBain and Beal City are expecting to be among the league powers this season.

“We have to try to overcome what they’re making us do,” Davis said of the key for beating those two teams. “We want to get that district this year.”
