Danley enjoying explosive season as Evart running back

EVART — Dillon Danley won’t soon forget a huge play he and the Evart Wildcats made earlier this season in a 16-6 loss to Pine River.

The Wildcats are 2-5 but have had many highlights including the one against the Bucks, who had a 16-0 lead and were driving with the ball at the Evart 3-yard-line in the fourth quarter.

The Evart defense held and Danley, on the next play, sped 97 yards for the touchdown to get the Wildcats back in the game.

“Everything just came together for the first time this season,” he said. “It was a 24 dive. As soon as I hit the hole, I saw everybody go the left and I went to the right. I knew I was faster than the middle linebackers they had.”

It was the longest touchdown run of his career. The Wildcats, despite losing, made a game out of it.

“We came together as a family for the first time the whole season,” Danley, a junior, said.

His year “is getting better throughout the season,” Danley said. “We’re still working on our flaws on offense.”

The Wildcats close out the season with road games Friday at Lake City and Oct. 24 at Montabella.

“We have to get our offense started,” Danley said. “Our defense is clicking. We just need to get our offense going.”

Danley plays outside linebacker on defense. He took pride in the fact the team held Pine River down to 16 points when the Bucks have been scoring more against other opponents.

“Our defense has been holding up strong throughout the whole season,” he said. “We have a strong run defense. Our pass defense, we need to work on that a little more.”
