Coyote wrestlers go 1-3 at Rockford
REED CITY — Reed City’s wrestling team was 1-3 Saturday while facing tough competition in Saturday’s Rockford team tournament. The Coyotes lost 62-18 to Portage Central, 48-25 to Jackson Lumen Christi and 72-6 over Rockford.
Reed City closed the tournament with a 40-33 win over Traverse City West.
Coyote wrestlers that won two matches were Matt McGahey at 103, Troy Giese at 112, Dakota Gogolowski at 189, Aaron French at 215 and Matt McDonald at 285.
“It was almost all Division 1 schoools,” said Reed City coach Roger Steig, whose team’s record is 15-12.
Last Wednesday, Reed City was at Lakeview and wrestled the host school and Central Montcalm. The Coyotes beat CM 50-30 but then fell 51-24 to Lakeview.
Thayne Stieg at 112, Adam Kehr at 140 and Eric Reed at 171 were 2-0 for the Coyotes.
On Wednesday, the Coyotes will have a Central State Activities Association match at home against Big Rapids. Action starts at 5:30. it will be parents night for Reed City.
The Pine River wrestling team was 2-3 at the Alma Invitational on Saturday. The Bucks lost 46-21 to New Lothrop, won 53-12 over Ithaca, lost to Farmington Hills Harrison 43-28 and defeated Alma 57-27.
Kyle Nixon at 125, Abel Langworthy at 130 and Cason Rawson at 152 were all 4-1.
On Jan. 11, Pine River swept Forest Area 63-14 and Manton 63-15 during home action in the Mid-Michigan Wrestling Conference.
“It was a good effort by the overall team,” said Pine River coach Tim Jones. “At 145, Larry Kissinger had a big win over a kid from Manton, Scott Babb. That was probably the biggest match of the night.”
