REMUS — The Chippewa Hill Warriors defeated Reed City 53-19 on Wednesday in Central State Activities Association action to improve to 18-2 overall and a perfect 8-0 in the league. Reed City defeated Morley Stanwood to round out the action, 51-13.

Reed City coach Roger Steig was happy to leave the match with a split, noting that his kids gave hippewa Hills all they could handle.

“The score was no indication of the match,” he said. “I thought we wrestled tough in every weight class and went the distance against some pretty good wrestlers. I couldn’t be happier.”

The Coyotes (18-18) got two wins on Wednesday from Adam Kehr (140) and Dominic Garcia (215), while Andre Burks (171), Abe Angious (103), Matt McGahey (112), Thayne Stieg (119), Drake Walker (135), Derek Ward (145), Jared Shyrock (160) and Matt Crysler (285) picked up one win.

Steig said he also was happy with how some of his younger wrestlers performed in the spotlight on Wednesday.

“I thought Troy Giese (130) wrestled well and we finally got Andre Burks into the lineup, and he did a nice job,” he said. “Thayne (Stieg), Dominic Garcia and Adam Kehr were all solid like they have been all year for us.”

Morley Stanwood coach Jeff Davis said he was pleased with how his kids wrestled despite being at a disadvantage in the numbers. The Mohawks got a pair of wins from Steven Malloy (189), while Sean Higley (130) picked up a win against Reed City.
