REED CITY - Reed City has a young girls basketball team this season but has been getting in some strong contributions from the likes of sophomore Paige Lofquist.

The Coyotes are off to an 0-2 start with losses to Clare and Cadillac. But Lofquist had a huge night against Cadillac last week with 11 points to lead the Reed City attack.

"We played pretty well and worked hard," Lofquist said.

It's her first year of varsity basketball.

"I practiced with the varsity all summer," Lofquist said. "I tried out for varsity (preseason)."

Lofquist is a point guard for coach Tim Beilfuss' team. When she scored 11 against Cadillac, most of her points came from driving.

"I'm not the greatest outside shooter sometimes," she said. "I think most of my points will come from driving."

Lofquist takes pride on her defense.

"I think I'm pretty strong at stopping them from getting to the paint and in penetrating," she said. "As a team, we're all pretty fast."

The Coyotes will open the CSAA Gold season home against Fremont on Friday.
