REED CITY — Brittany Cassidy enjoyed her first season with Reed City varsity softball and can hardly wait for her second. In fact, she’s not waiting for her second varsity campaign. She’s getting ready for it every Sunday with practices at the Reed City softball diamond and every Wednesday with games at the Mount Pleasant summer league.

“It was pretty good, I enjoyed it,” Cassidy said. “I think I progressed a lot from junior varsity to varsity. The biggest adjustment was knowing where to go.”

Cassidy, who will be a senior next year. usually plays right field and first base for Reed City.

“I like first base better,” she smiled. “I know where to go most of the time.”

Cassidy wants to improve her hitting. That’s something she’s concentrating on during the summer.

The Coyotes had a young team during 2013.

“I think we did pretty good considering a lot of them were freshmen,” Cassidy said. “We’re going to get better because they’ll be practicing longer. (Next year) should be good.”

Cassidy will also play fall ball in Grand Rapids.

Playing during the summer and fall, “helps a lot because you’re doing it continually and not waiting until the spring and you’re getting a lot of practice,” Cassidy said.

Poor spring weather and limited access to the outdoor didn’t help the Coyotes.

“We were inside for quite awhile and once we got outdoors we had a game,” she recalled.
