REED CITY — Reed City soccer seniors Morgan Cook and Miranda Burch hope to lead the way to a strong season for the Coyotes this spring.

It’s Cook’s fourth year on the varsity and she’ll be an attacking midfielder.

Cook was hurt at the beginning of the 2012 season and didn’t quite have the year she would have preferred.

But to get ready for this season, Cook played AYSO and indoor soccer.

“I’ll be helping with the assists and scoring,” she said. “I want to be a leader for my team and direct them in the right way.”

Cook said she’s trying to work at improving her passing.

“As a team, we’re working on footwork on our passing,” Cook said. “I think we’ll be a very challenging team this year. We have a lot of defensive and offensive players.”

The first three weeks, the Coyotes have practiced indoors because of the weather.

“Once we get outside, I think we’ll adjust very quickly,” Cook said. “I think after four or five games, we’ll be back to normal.”

Burch is a senior sweeper who is in her third full varsity season.

“We didn’t have many players last year,” she said. “We were conditioned but were tired at the end. I thought I played a solid team game but we have things to work on. I need to learn how to aim the ball better.

“We’ll have a solid team this year. It’s a lot different from last year. “

Burch will be the defender in front of the goal in her role.

“We have a solid defense,” she said. “We’re all defensive players. We have lots of girls this year.

We need to stick together, pass well and communicate. Every team has improvements to do. After we start practicing outside, we’ll have a solid team.”
