Coyote senior playing key role for hoops team

REED CITY —  Reed City entered this week with more action on tap and senior Dean Eichenberg was hopeful the Coyotes could continue their winning ways on the basketball court.

The Reed City Coyotes picked up an 84-69 Central State Activities Association (CSAA) victory on Tuesday night over White Cloud on the road.

The Coyotes got 27 points from Chad Samuels and 18 from Dean Eichenberg.

“We came out kind of slow but we started picking it up after the half,” Eichenberg said. “Chad did really good shooting that night. We tried to give him the ball more.”

A Friday game with Big Rapids was postponed because of the weather.

Reed City entered this week at 6-1 overall and 5-1 in the conference. They were scheduled to play Morley Stanwood Tuesday and Lakeview Wednesday in home games and be at Holton Friday.

“We have to come ready to play,” he said. “If one guy is making all the shots, we try to get it to him.”

Other than a loss to Newaygo, the Coyotes have been happy with the results of the season so far.

“We’re playing good offense. We have to get a little better on defense,” Eichenberg said, (especially) full-court. “We like to pressure.”

Eichenberg has been happy with his 3-point shooting. He’s been hitting around 42 percent and has been happy with that.

“You have to be confident with your shot,” he said, adding that “moving my feet more” will be the key to improving on defense.

Some observers are thinking the CSAA champ will have a couple of losses, at least. But Eichenberg and his teammates would just as soon go perfect the rest of the way in the CSAA.

“We put down as one of our goals to win conference,” Eichenberg said.
