Coyote boys track team defeats Big Rapids


REMUS — Big Rapids, Reed City, Chippewa Hills and Hesperia were at Chippewa Hills on Thursday night for a triple dual meet in track and field.

The Chippewa Hills girls team defeated Reed City 132-5 and beat Big Rapids 130-7. The Reed City girls beat Big Rapids 76-40.

Reed City’s Hanna Price took second overall in the 100 meters (13.83).

On the boys side Chippewa Hills beat Reed City 75.5-61.5, and beat Big Rapids 102-35 and Reed City beat Big Rapids 91-38.

Reed City’s Nate Fasbender took first in the pole vault (12-6) and the long jump (19-1.5) while his teammate Jon Green won the discus (121-10). The Coyotes’ TJ Patterson took first in the shot put (42-6) while Chippewa Hills won the 800 relay in 1:37.5. Reed City’s Michael Gilmurray, Andre Jones, Colin Hatfield and Green won the 400 relay (45.86) and Chippewa Hills’ David Painter took first in the 400 meter dash (55.21).

“Nate had a great day for us. He long jumped for the first time,” said Reed City coach Brent Mitchell. “All of our kids, we were happy with. We came out and ran well. It was the first meet of the year. We have a bunch of new kids. We really didn’t know what events we’d be in. We were happy with the results.”

Reed City’s Jones won the 200 (23.8).

Reed City is at Chippewa Hills to face Morley Stanwood Wednesday and is at Newaygo on Friday.
