EVART – Evart’s Billy Conklin has been playing varsity basketball since his freshman year and is hoping to give the Wildcats key contributions during his junior season.

“Last year, we didn’t get to where we wanted to,” he said. “We had a good, successful season.”

Conklin plays third base, pitcher and catcher for the Wildcats.

At third base, “I feel I can field anything,” Conklin said. “I have a strong arm.”

At catcher, “blocking and my throws down to second are strengths,” Conklin said, adding that on pitching, his movement on his pitches will be an asset.

His curveball is his best pitch, followed by his fastball.

The Wildcats spent their first 16 practices indoors and finally were outside in recent days.

“We’re ready but every team needs to be outside,” Conklin said.

He’s hoping to hit in the high .300s or low .400s.

“You have to be balanced and try to hit the ball hard,” Conklin said.

Evart is at Glen Lake on Wednesday.

“I think we have a chance to win the conference and get into (the state tournament),” Conklin said.
