EVART — Deanna Conklin had a productive sophomore season for Evart’s softball team and the Wildcats are anxious to see what she can do for the future.

“We had a lot of girls this year and we’re working together and trusting each other,” she said early in the season

Conklin played second base and catcher last year and added shortstop to her positions this year.

Her fielding is a strength, she said, while the arm to first base has been adequate.

“I think shortstop is a little more challenging,” she said, adding her throwdowns are strong as a catcher. She was also strong in stopping passed balls.

Her hitting has also been strong the last two years.

“Watching the ball is key,” she said. “I hit for contact. Power will come.”

Conklin had high hopes for the team.

“We can go for the championship if we wanted to,” she said.
