College sports in brief
Emma Lockhart of Reed City, playing for Cornerstone University, saw 15 minutes of action in her team’s 75-72 victory at Bethel (Ind.) on Dec. 20 and was 1-of-2 from the 3-point area for three points. Cornerstone is 10-4.
Jamie Justin of Pine River scored two points on 1-of-5 shooting for Davenport University’s women’s team in Saturday’s 80-50 victory over Calvin in the finals of Davenport’s holiday tournament. Davenport is 13-1 and ranked fourth nationally in NAIA Division II. On Friday in a tourney semifinal game, Davenport beat Holy Cross 116-58. Justin was 3-of-4 from the floor in that game and scored seven points.
Jared Holmquist of Reed City scored 11 points for Trine University (Ind.) Saturday in 67-65 loss at Wabash. In his first eight games for Trine, 5-3, Holmquist has started each game and is averaging 9.4 points and 7.3 rebounds a game.
Luke Jones of Pine River, in his junior year with the Michigan State wrestling program, is at 5-2 so far this season with a 3-1 record in tournaments and 2-1 mark in duals. In his most recent match, he won a 17-5 decision over Frank Abbondanza of North Carolina in a dual.
