Clark eyes strong senior season for Evart runners

EVART  — Clairese Clark is looking for her senior season to be her best for Evart’s cross country team.

She’s been running cross country six years.

“I had a hip injury,” Clark said of last season, adding she “pretty much” is back at full strength.

Evart’s home meets at Spring Hill camp and a hillier course has made it a challenge for Clark and her teammates.

“I felt like I was going so slow,” she said after the Evart Invitational. “They changed the course. There’s a huge hill in the back now.”

Warm weather earlier in the season wasn’t ideal for runners like Clark. Her best time this season has been 23:04. Her career best is 22:40.

Before the season ends, “I hope to be in the 21s,” she said, “and maybe make it to state.”

Motivation will be the key for reaching those goals, Clark added.

“I think I have a good second mile,” she said. “I normally push through that.”

Clark wants to improve on her finishes.

“I’m pretty dead at the end,” she said.

Evart is going through the heart of its schedule in preparation of regional action later this month.

“We’re all good,” Clark said. “We all support each other and participate.”

Evart hosts a Highland Conference jamboree Oct. 20.
