Chippewa Hills wins Reed City golf invitational

REED CITY — Friday's Coyotes Invitational at Falcon Head Golf course featured the unique two man-scramble format with Chippewa Hills shooting a 237 and edging Kent City by one stroke. Sparta was third with 239.

Nick Althouse and Dillan Walton combined for a 72 and Robert Burnell and Kaden Doyle of Chippewa Hills combined for a 75 to lead the attack.

Reed City had a 241, Seth Phelps and Brady Slater combined for an 80 while Bryce Grannis and Mason Bush had an 84.

“I think we played better yesterday (in CSAA tournament) and also Monday at Tullymore (at another tournament),” Reed City coach Katrina Wray said. “I'm not sure what to attribute that to. But the kids had fun.”

That included Phelps, Grannis and Slater, who all indicated after Friday's tourney they could have gotten better scores, but expressed their happiness with how the season has gone for the team so far. It's been among the most successful teams the Coyotes have had in recent seasons, all three indicated.  All three players are looking for their best scores at regionals next week with hopes of advancing to the state finals on June 10.

Grannis has also been playing baseball and said he's been able to fit both sports into his schedule without much conflict.
