Chippewa Hills suffer first baseball losses of season

Evart softball team sweeps Lake City

REMUS – Chippewa Hills’ baseball team fell from the ranks of the unbeaten with Monday’s doubleheader loss to Clare.

Clare won the first game 15-4. Sam Cole was the losing pitcher. Gavin Wellisley had two hits as did Robert VanVleet,

Game two the Warriors lost 15-8. Tyler Geer was the losing pitcher. Paris Alston had two hits including a triple. Vanvleet added a hit and two RBIs, and Carl Whipple had a double.

CH is 5-2 and played at Central Montcalm on Tuesday.

SOFTBALL

Evart girls

EVART – Evart’s softball team opened its conference season with two wins on Friday over Lake City.

It was 13-0 in the first game. Addy Gray allowed zero runs in five innings. Evart had nine runs in the second inning. Ryenn Baumgardner had a key double.

In the second game, Veronica Lofquist pitched a shutout in a 10-0 win. Lofquist allowed one hit. She fanned 10 batters.

Evart was at Traverse City St. Francis in a Saturday tournament and lost 2-0 to Kingsley. Gray had a single in the third. Lofquist was the losing pitcher in five innings and fanned five batters.

Evart lost 8-5 to St. Francis. Gray was the losing pitcher. She fanned six batters. Baumgardner and Ally Theunick had hits for the Wildcats.

Evart beat Benzie 3-0, Lofquist pitched the shutout and allowed three hits. Gray had two hits.

Monday game

Evart JVs played Big Rapids on Monday and won the second game 18-3. Ally Theunick had three hits including a home run and triple. Kate Duncan also had key hits along with Kylie Dorn. Kate Gostlin also had a homer.

Evart won 17-1 in the first game. Duncan had three hits five RBIs. Evart had nine hits. Ally Theunick had a strong game defensively.

BASEBALL

Pine River 16, Harrison 0

The Bucks won the first game in three innings in a Monday twinbill.

Hunter Kanouse was the winning pitcher, striking out five and allowing a hit. He also had a double and RBI. Cole Hill had a single and two RBIs. Connor Rouse had a single and two RBIs. Ben Lockhart had a single and three RBIs. Zach Lemmon had a single and three RBIs.

Pine River won the second game. Austin Lastoski was the winning pitcher. Elijah Carper had two hits and two RBIs. Lockhart had a single and RBI.
