Cassidy set to give Coyotes strong season at first base

REED CITY  — Brittany Cassidy is in her second varsity season with the Reed City softball team and is looking to help the Coyotes post a winning record.

Cassidy was at outfield and first base last season. She’s hoping to be at first base this season.

Hitting was somewhat of a challenge for Cassidy last season while she’s looking to pick up her batting average this spring. She’s looking at being more relaxed and disciplined at the plate.

“I played summer ball and fall ball,” Cassidy said. “It think it helped a lot.”

She’s looking to be a more disciplined hitter and be more selective on the pitches she swings at this season.

Cassidy is confident of a strong defensive season at first base, especially when it comes to catching throws by her teammates at various positions.

The Coyotes started practice on March 10 to get ready for the spring season.

“We have a lot of the same players,” Cassidy said. “We’re kind of in the middle, like we’re not all young or all seniors.”

Winter weather will limit the Coyotes’ outdoor preparations for the season. A scheduled trip to Florida during spring break is likely to help her team get ready.

“Last year we didn’t win a whole lot of games but hopefully that’s different this year,” Cassidy said. “I think we’ll get better considering we’re going to Florida, we’ll be able to practice more and will be more together as a team.”
