REED CITY – Now Carly Carlson will focus on Reed City basketball in the winter and soccer in the spring. But it was quite a cross country season for the Reed City Coyote sophomore.

She also ran cross country last season.

“I had a better year last year than I did this year,” Carlson said. “Actually, I’m kind of about the same as I was last year.”

She usually was the No. 3 runner for the Coyotes behind sisters Nora and Clare Smoes.

Her race at Kent City in CSAA action was a highlight for Carlson. She clocked a 22:51. She was honorable mention all-conference.

“I just try to get out really fast,” Carlson said of her race strategy. “I like the weather cold.”

Carlson has been playing for a club soccer team out of Cadillac. Soccer is her favorite sport. She also plays basketball during the winter.

It was a fun cross country team season.

“We are all having a pretty strong year,” Carlson said. “We have a really good team connection. I’m a very competitive person. I like the competitive aspect of the sport.”
