EVART — Evart’s girls basketball team opens the season next week with players like Kyleigh Burhans eager to help the Wildcats have a successful year.

The Wildcats finished their third week of practice on Friday. They are home against Forest Area on Tuesday.

Burhans is a sophomore and said she found out during summer she would be on varsity her first year.

“I was excited, but kind of nervous because I didn’t know how I would fit with it,” she said.

After three weeks of practice, Burhans said the nervousness has subsided.

“I like it,” she said. “The tempo is different.”

Her role is shooting guard and Burhans, hopeful of scoring points, said free-throw shooting will be her best shot.”

Practice and repetition are her strengths

“I’m looking at driving to the rim,” Burhans said.

She’s hoping for a winning season for the Wildcats and expects the team to get better as the season unfolds.
