Bucks working on new offense
New Pine River coach Martin hopes to bring new approach to team this seasonLEROY — New Pine River football coach Terry Martin is bringing in a new offense and defense with him to Pine River’s football program this fall. It’s obviously Martin’s hope that his new packages and a new look to the Pine River football attack will result in more victories this season. The Bucks are still going through the summer workouts with their new coaches. The Bucks will begin fall practices on Aug. 12. “We have a few kids who have caught on and have been here for a lot of stuff and are doing very well,” Martin said. The offense isn’t just putting in some new wrinkles from past seasons. “It’s completely brand new,” Martin said. “It’s an option offense. We haven’t done any reading option in past years.” That’s not the only change. Martin indicates the defense will also be new, although not totally. “Defensively, it’s similar to what we’ve run in the past.” he said. The Bucks have been playing in a passing league at Cadillac on Tuesdays. Pine River will host its team camp, which is set for Monday through Wednesday. The Bucks have not made the playoffs since 2005 and have had back-to-back 2-7 seasons. Pine River's first game is Aug. 29 at Kalkaska. The home opener is set for Sept. 6 against Benzie Central.
