REED CITY — Reed City’s wrestling team finished ninth in its home invitational Saturday and Morley Stanwood 12th among 16 teams.

Pine River was first, West Ottawa second and Tri County third in the tournament which featured the individual format.

Adam Kehr scored his 100th career while taking second at 140 pounds. Dominic Garcia at 189 and Isaac Zolman at 285 were fourth. Matt McGahey at 112 and Devyn Ward at 145 were fifth. Travis French was sixth at 171.

“Our kids wrestled well,” said Reed City coach Roger Steig. “We lost a couple of our starters (from injuries) at 125 and 130 during the day. We finished lower than we hoped to. Both of the wrestlers at 125 and 130 would have scored a lot of points for us.”

For Morley Stanwood, Steven Malloy was first at 189, Sean Higley fourth at 130 and Zach Koehn sixth at 112.

“We brought four and placed three,” said Morley Stanwood coach Jeff Davis. “Sean Higley beat one kid who had beaten him previously. He came back and won. He’s wrestling stronger now. Steven is doing a good job.”

Reed City wrestles at Pine River on Wednesday and at Holton on Saturday in the Central State Activities Association meet.

Morley Stanwood is at Greenville Wednesday and in the CSAA meet Saturday.
