REED CITY — It was a short but very sweet wrestling season for Reed City sophomore Alex Brummel.

Brummel placed at 130 pounds in the Division 3 district at Chippewa Hills and advance to the regional.

He wrestled at 135 pounds during the regular season.

Brummel was happy with his freshman season.

“I beat a couple of ranked kids,” he said. “I went to the blood round of districts.”

Brummel’s season was shortened due to a football injury he sustained the ninth week of the regular season. He had surgery on his left elbow and said it’s taken three months to heal. He said prior to the conference meet that he’s still trying to get to 100 percent.

He might have been there during the district.

“I’ve had to do a lot of catch up,” Brummel said, adding that he was confident he’d be ready for district.

He was.

“I’m really good at riding,” Brummel said. “I want to get a little bit closer with my shots.”

Brummel and other Reed City teammates who qualified for regionals wrestled last Saturday at Allendale. Brummel did not advance but still enjoyed a strong season.
