Belleville set to score plenty of points for Evart track

EVART — It’s her junior season and Evart’s Brooke Belleville is looking at scoring a lot of points for her track team.

It’s her third year of track. Last season, “my sprints improved a lot,” she said.

Belleville is in the 100, 200 and 4x100 and 4x200 relay this season.

“I want to finish high in our regional in the 100,” she said, “and hopefully go to state in the 4x1.”

It’s the 4x100 that’s her best event. She’s the lead runner. The 100 is her best individual event. She appears to be ahead of the pace so far.

“I have a good start and finish in the 100,” she said. “In the 200, I usually start out strong. I kind of struggle to keep my pace. I’m working on it. In my first meet, I started to where my times were good last year. I’m off to a good start.”

Despite the poor weather in recent weeks, the Wildcats have been able to get outdoors a lot, Belleville said.

Evart graduated several standouts from last season, but could still enjoy a competitive team.

“I think we’re lacking in the distances,” she said. “We have a pretty good shot team, and long jump, we’re strong. We’re lacking in the distances but they’re working on it and they’re going to get stronger.”

Belleville expects to see the Wildcats win some meets and hopes to contend in the Highland Conference.

“Manton has a lot of people for girls,” she said. “Beal City probably, too.”

Evart was scheduled to be at Vestaburg on Tuesday and will be at Roscommon on Friday.
