EVART — Brooke Belleville has completed a strong cross country season for the Evart Wildcats, who took fifth place recently at the Division 4 regional in Carson City-Crystal.

Belleville, a junior, was 38th in 23:59.

At the final Highland Conference jamboree of the season on her home course at Spring Hill Camp, Belleville reflected on the progress she made during the season.

“I improved a lot,” she said. “I used to run 26s and now I’m down to the 23s.”

Belleville acknowledges she didn’t necessarily run heavily during the offseason, but attributed her improvement in 2015 to attitude.

“I’ve got a better start,” Belleville said.

She’ll be playing basketball, which started with practices on Nov. 9, plus track. Cross country prepares her from a physical and mental standpoint in both.

It was Belleville’s hopes, like any runner, to do her best by the end of the season. She was hoping for 23:15.

The Wildcats were usually able to get five runners for a team score.

“We could have done a lot better,” Belleville said after the final Highland jamboree.

But Belleville and the team capped it off with a strong fifth-place finish at the regional.
