Bekah Dean eyes strong senior season at Pine River
LEROY — Bekah Dean can hardly wait for her senior sports year at Pine River.
That’s why she and others are extremely active right now with softball and basketball.
Dean, who will be a senior, has been catching for the Pine River LAT League team that plays at Bristol Fields. She recently completed her junior season.
“For me personally, it went really well,” she said. “I had a good season. As a team, we kind of struggled a little bit. It was a decent season.”
Catcher, third baseman and pitcher have been among Dean’s positions.
Her best position “is between catcher and third base,” she said. “We’re working out where new people need to go and what needs to be worked on.”
The LAT League has players from all high school grades including the incoming freshmen.
“They’re going to be very young,” Dean said. “We only had a few seniors.”
Dean also is in cross country during the fall and basketball during the spring.
“This is my first year in cross country,” she said. “We have basketball coming up. Cross country, you do some running stuff during the summer.”
As a three-sport athlete, Dean realizes how critical it is to stay active this time of year.
“It’s so important,” she said. “It’s so easy to forget those little things you worked on during the season.”
The next softball season won’t start until March. However, what’s being done now, “helps a lot,” Dean said. “I play travel ball, too. That helps. I play for the Mount Pleasant Drillers.”
She’s currently the only Pine River softball player on a travel league team.
