Beal City too much for Pine River

BEAL CITY — Beal City continued to roll through its season last Friday in a 64-13 win over Pine River.

The Bucks (2-1, 0-1) made some early mistakes and paid for them, falling behind 21-0. Pine River did come up with a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter on the ground from Brandon Fulks and Mitchell McDonald.

“There were some positives and negatives,” said Bucks coach Terry Martin. “Obviously we came out and knew playing against Beal City, that’s a team you can’t make many mistakes against because they don’t make many of their own. We started off and they blocked a punt on us and scored right away. A couple of series later, they returned a punt. that first quarter got away from us fast.”

Skyler Nelson led the Bucks in passing, going 11-for-20 for 126 yards, although he was intercepted twice.

“Our kids continued to play,” Martin said. “We were able to get our offense going a bit and push two scores on them, which I guess was a minor accomplishment to take away from the game.”

McDonald led the team with 32 yards on the ground while Kyle Nixon led the defense with seven tackles.

The Bucks are home this Friday night in non-league action against Wyoming Godwin Heights.

“Obviously we’ve never seen them but we have a couple of films on them,” Martin said. “Right now, they’re undefeated and have three pretty significant wins score-wise. Obviously, they’re slightly dangerous. They appear to have some good team speed we’ll have to match on the football field. But we don’t know a lot about them.”
