Basketball teams eager to resume action
LEROY — Pine River’s girls basketball team comes off the holiday break at 3-2.
The last game for the Bucks was Dec. 19 in a 39-18 win over Marion. They resume their schedule with home games Jan. 7, Jan. 9 and Jan. 13 against Northern Michigan Christian, Lake City and Brethren.
“I’ve been pretty happy,” said Pine River coach Shawn Ruppert. “I wasn’t real happy with our last effort. But other than that I’ve been happy. They’re playing hard. I thought we improved every game up until our last game which was the day before break. We didn’t play as hard as we had been.”
Ruppert has had a busy practice schedule for his team over the holidays.
“We have to get better on offense,” he said. “Our defense has been solid. Offensively, we have to get better.”
Evart’s girls basketball team, 0-6, will try to get that first win in a home game Tuesday against Marion.
Reed City, 2-4, is back in action Monday at Lakeview and has its next home game Jan. 9 with Chippewa Hills.
Area boys basketball teams have yet to drop a game with Pine River and Reed City at 3-0 and Evart at 2-0.
Pine River hosted a scrimmage with Reed City on New Year’s Eve. The Bucks are home with McBain this Friday night. Reed City is home Jan. 7 against Lakeview. Evart has its first home game of the New Year Jan. 6 with Manistee.
