Baseball, softball under way in Evart
EVART — Evart baseball coach George Sims and his Wildcat baseball team is eager to get the season under way although everything is still contingent on weather conditions.
The Wildcats were scheduled to play at Chippewa Hills on Tuesday. On Wednesday, they were set to be at Pine River for a scrimmage or game for nine innings.
“We’ve both missed games because of the weather and we both have tournaments on Saturday, but the weather is supposed to be nasty,” Sims said.
Monday was Evart’s third day outside for baseball practice.
“We got out last Thursday and Friday,” Sims said. “Our pitchers have been throwing but it’s been inside on the wood mound. My biggest concern is on how my pitchers will throw off a real mound and my batters actually seeing live pitching.”
The Evart softball team and coach Josh Justin also was slated to open at Chippewa Hills on Tuesday and will play Saturday at Morley Stanwood.
During the break “most of the girls were gone,” Johnson said, but Evart did have some practices.
“We’re excited to be playing some ball for sure,” Johnson said.
