Bailey having strong season for Evart
EVART - Evart's wrestling program, in only its fifth season, continues to make strides, especially with talented wrestlers like sophomore Sam Bailey, who placed fourth at 160 pounds in the Threloff Invitational at St. Louis on Saturday.
"Sam's improved a lot from last year," Evart coach Ben Bryant said. "He's worked his butt off in the weight room. He's cut down to 160 pounds."
It's Bailey's second year of varsity wrestling.
"Last year was pretty good," he said.
"I had like a .500 record. This year, I'm doing pretty good in the tournament. I've been wrestling at 171 but, I'm light for 171."
For the postseason tournament, Bailey plans on being at 160 pounds.
He also took a fourth place at another holiday tournament.
"I wasn't feeling the best but I had some good takedowns," he said.
Bailey is looking to improve on his neutral work. He indicated his confidence has grown.
"I want to get out of districts and make it to regionals," he said.
The Wildcats continue to build a strong wrestling program.
"We've been doing good as a team," Bailey said.
