REED CTIY — Three players for Reed City’s volleyball team have earned all-league honors this season from the Central State Activities Association.

Reed City was 11-5 in the league for third place.

Sami Michell was on the first team for Reed City while Emma Lockhart and Jacolyn Mullins were on the honorable mention list.

Michell, a junior, had 338 digs and 2.94 per game. She totaled 534 kills for 4.45 per game and a 31.7 hitting percentage. She also totaled 126 aces and 80 blocks.

“She really progressed as the year went on,” said Reed City coach Don Patterson. “She was a setter for us her freshman and sophomore years. She had more kills than either or our big hitters last year. At the end of the year she was hitting really well. She led our team in aces, kills and blocks.”

Lockhart, a junior outside hitter, led the team in digs and was third behind Michell and Mullins in kills. She had an 86 percent serving accuracy.

“She was our best defender,” Patterson said.

Mullins, was a sophomore outside hitter who had 346 digs for 3.01 per game and had 140 kills for 1.17 per game and had 59 aces plus nine blocks.

“She was second on the team in kills and led our team in serving,” Patterson said. “She was second on the team in aces and was one of our better defenders and passers.”

Pine River placed Cayman Gatt, Jessica Hoaglund, Kassy Nelson and Chelsea Nelson on the all-conference team. Sheena Vokes earned honorable mention honors.

Gatt totaled 299 kills, 473 digs and 12 blocks, plus 31 aces and 14 assists. She served 87.9 percent. “She was a consistent level player,” Pine River coach Jana Dennis said.

Hoaglund collected 281 kills, 174 digs, 82 blocks, plus 27 aces and 27 assists. She was 97.7 percent from the serving line. “She was our quickside hitter,” Dennis said.

Kassy Nelson picked up 33 kills, 129 digs, 32 errors, 26 aces and 18 assists. She served for 90.0 percent. “She kind of was the glue that kept the back row together,” Dennis said.

Chelsea Nelson was 88.2 percent in serves with 215 kills, 95 digs, 144 aces and 928 assists. “Chelsea was our go-to girl,” Dennis said. “At crunch time, she’s the one that wanted the ball in her hands.”

“Vokes helped us a lot in serving,” Dennis said. “She gave us stability in the back row.”
