Area bass fishing club ends season

LEROY — A long-time bass fishing club in Osceola County, has called it season.

The Hawg Hunters’ Club is operated by LeRoy bait store owner Brad Cox. The tournament schedule ended last week.

“We had anywhere from 20 to 25 boats a week,” he said. “That’s about normal. We have several different lakes. We go to Rose Lake and Big Lake and Chippewa Lake, plus lakes Cadillac and Mitchell and Lake Missaukee.”

Total weight winners has not yet been announced. Among the leading fishermen throughout the season have been Lance Johnson, Doug Bode, Brad Cox, Keith Randy, Thomas Messup, Tyler Fleming, Jarred Lockhart, Andy Pluger, Levi Albert, Travis Smith, Jason Sutton, Tad Mellsh, Joe Perrin, Bill Zeilinger and Brian Kanouse.

Aaron Eckert has been in charge of the Midweek Therapy Group of Big Rapids, which has been meeting on Wednesdays. The last day for the bass fishing circuit was on Aug. 22 at Brower Park and Hardy Pond. Other stops included Croton Pond, Lake Mecosta and Chippewa Lake

Eckert was a member of the first-place team.
