Area DU chapter sets banquet for March 24

Event will be at St. Mary's

BIG RAPIDS – The Haymarsh Chapter of Ducks Unlimited has announced its banquet on March 24 at St. Mary’s Parish Center in Big Rapids.

Pre-registration is mandatory and the deadline is March 17. Persons can call area chairman Anthony Krellwitz at 231 349-2006.

It will be a buffet style dinner by Pere Marquette Bistro and Catering. A silent auction and veteran raffle will be featured.

All funds are raised for wetlands conservation.

Because of COVID, the last DU banquet was in March 2019, Krellwitz who lives in Chase, said.

“We had to cancel our 2020 banquet the week of because of COVID,” Krellwitz said. “Now all chapters are holding events in person.”

The Haymarsh DU chapter includes persons in Mecosta, Lake and Osceola counties, Krellwitz noted. The chapter primarily raises funds for the organization. At the last banquet the chapter was going to hold there were 230 confirmed attendees.

“We’re still working on drumming up numbers for this year’s event,” he said. “Right now there are 10 of us active in the Haymarsh chapter.”

Krellwitz said the area DU chapter reactivated in 2017 after being inactive for many years.
