EVART – When people talk about Evart baseball, they usually bring up the name Witbeck, Danny Witbeck to be more precise.

It was Witbeck who helped the Warriors win a regional title a year ago. He’s now at Northwood University.

But another Witbeck is coming up the ranks with Logan Witbeck, his younger brother, playing a prominent role in the Wildcat baseball program.

Logan has been playing on the Evart summer team. He will be playing on the varsity again next seasons as a freshman. This year, “it’s been going pretty good,” he said. “I broke my arm earlier in the season but I was able to come back for districts and pitch.”

His goal during the summer “has been to get more accurate while I’m pitching,” Witbeck said, adding that when it came to hitting last spring, “I did pretty good but then I broke my arm when someone slid into me when I went to tag them.”

But Witbeck figures he is back to being normal physically.

Playing summer baseball, especially when it’s warmer, is really enjoyed for Witbeck.

He is considering playing football this season. Practices start on Aug. 8. Baseball is his top love. He pitched last year and played second base and third base.

Witbeck hopes to hit between .300 and .400 next season.

“The key is to watch a pitcher’s arm slot to see what pitch he might throw,” Witbeck said.

The two Witbecks are four years apart and haven’t played together but throw the ball around a lot at home.

“Next year we should be pretty good,” Logan said. “We’re going to have good defense.”
