Andi Bogert is Pine River’s new cross country coach

LEROY — Andi Bogert is making the transition from middle school to high school cross country coach for Pine River.

Bogert, a former Pine River athlete, replaces Ross Vrieze who had resigned the position. She works full-time at Center Lake Bible Camp in Tustin. The last two seasons, she coached Pine River middle school cross country and also worked with the track team as an assistant.

“The idea of coaching varsity always appealed to me,” Bogert said. “I love working with the younger kids. I talked to other people who I thought were interested in it.”

But Bogert saw the opportunity and pursued it. She ran cross country under Pine River coach Cecil Burch and later ran at Spring Arbor University. She’s a 2010 graduate of Pine River. She was a sprinter and jumper. She was in cross country and track four years each.

Pine River girls were second in the state during her cross country years in 2006 and 2007, and during track in 2008.

Practices officially start Aug. 10 for cross country. Competition will begin in late August.

“We’ve had some summer training,” Bogert said. “We just got started with that. Right now we’re running Tuesdays and Saturdays. I’m excited for what the turnout will be.”
