Anakin Andrus making successful return

REED CITY -- Anakin Andrus started out his Reed City wrestling career impressively, and is looking to keep it going at an impressive pace.

"Anakin is a junior this year," Reed City coach Roger Steig said.; "As long as he stays healthy and gets back in the lineup, he should get his 100th win. We've been happy with little brother, Alex."

Alex Andrus is a freshman.

Anakin Andrus has been busy making preparations to go into the military, school work and other activities and wasn't about to get into sports activities.

He came back in mid-December and started off 3-2. He's at 119 and is looking to cut down at 112. He was at 103 as a freshman.

"I had the best record (39-8) on the team my freshman year and was all-conference," Andrus said. "Last year, it didn't go my way but it still went decent. I thought I got better."

Andrus is with the team the rest of the season.

"I'd like to go to regionals and make my team better," he said. "I just want to do be the best I can be. My coach said I'm a freak of nature because I'm so much stronger compared to my opponents. I may be shorter (but am stronger). I wanted to be better in controlling my opponents on the mat, and incorporate my strengths into it."

The Coyotes are are home on Wednesday to take on Central Montcalm.

"I think we're doing really good," Andrus said. "We've improved since last year."
